How I Dated My Elder Brother's Friend and Suffered For Love - Singer Omawumi

Popular songstress, Omawumi Megbele, speaks to Ademola Olonilua about the "bad" things she did as a teenage girl back in the day, she also dishes on her latest work and sundry issues:

Why it took me so long to launch my album

I just wanted to take out time and make good music. There are some people who do yearly albums, I try to do like two or three years. There are people whom I emulate. I feel that as music is a craft, you must try to make sure you put out good materials that can stand the test of time. It is not something that can be relevant for only two months or a year. You want something that is good.

My Lasso of Truth album

I’m very happy, I have got a lot of positive feedback. The sales in the first week was great. They made about 500,000 copies and it is almost sold out. The sales did very well because the demand is high. I did not even know that the demand was this high, even outside Nigeria, We have been working out platforms where we can sell the album. People outside the country ask whoever is travelling abroad to buy the CD in bulk for them. The demand is that high.

If not music, I would have loved to be a teacher

I might be fun to be with, but I’m not a comedian. My mother wanted me to practice law, but I wanted to teach. I have always wanted to teach, I would have been a teacher. I don’t know why I have the capacity to get people to listen to me. Right now, I’m part of an organisation that mentors young girls. You know when you sit with young girls and you are advising them, if it is someone else advising them, deep down they might not listen and think the person is spoiling their fun. But I come across as somebody who has been there, done that and got the T-shirt. So they listen. I think it would have been a beautiful challenge for me to be a teacher. I’m sure I would have been worried about the pay but it would have been flexible enough for me to have a family as well as enjoy what I’m doing if I was not into music.

My early days

I had many experiences but I’d like not to embarrass myself. I was very mischievous as a kid. I used to get into a lot of trouble. I had a lot of older ones, so they used to deal with me a lot. They would say, ‘Omawumi don commit again’. I was the sort of person that would steal my elder sister’s bra and put socks inside; that was when I was bare-chested. The sad thing is that when the thing now came out, it just came out at once. I did the usual things that children do. I can’t say most of it in print. If my older ones should read it, they would discover some things I did back then. I was pretty much a normal kid. I used to play a lot but my parents made us understand the value of education.

Year 2013 so far

I have got four endorsements this year. It has been fantastic. The thing about it is that I have been working towards things like this for a while. The way my work is, I have a healthy fan base. I have the kind of music I make and the kind of people who like it and it appeals to. When it comes to endorsements, I’m really grateful to God. It is a process, if you work and you put out good material and you are relatable, it’s a good thing. The fact that I can market so many products proves I’m a true Nigerian. Without blowing my horn and in trying to be as modest as I can, I am educated. Most parents want their children to be educated and even if they want to pursue their dreams, they use me as an example. I pursued my dream but at the end of the day, I got the basic education. Is she street wise? They use me as an example.

Even though you are educated, it doesn’t mean you should be dumb. There are some parts of my life I feel people make comments, like ‘she is a single mother’; it is not supposed to be celebrated. The plus side of it is that I have a beautiful daughter. I figured that it is better for me to keep a life that God has given me as opposed to killing. That it didn’t work the way it should work or that I am not married, it is still a process, I am still a human being. That is also relatable. It is not like they say that when you get to a stage and you don’t get someone to marry you, you go and get pregnant. Some of my friends, when they look at me and say they want to be like me or that they don’t have time for men, I tell them no. Circumstances and life brought it upon me, I would not regret one day of it. I am happy with my daughter, I am happy about the family that she has and the one I have. Nonetheless, it is not something someone should come out and say this is the way to go.

Criticism

I’ll tell you the truth, I’m indifferent. I have developed a thick skin. I would not say that from the outset it never affected me. But it didn’t mean I put my hand under my cheek and started brooding. I was just worried why this sort of thing happened. I am a solutions kind of person and so I started looking for solutions. I found out that there was no solution. Whether you like it or not, people must talk about you. The more mysterious you are, the more stories would be woven around you. I figured that you win some and lose some, you cannot have it all. The day you are the focus of the press, you just say by God’s grace, this too shall pass. I don’t like it when people form an opinion about me out of negative publicity, especially when it is not true and it affects my career. That is the part I don’t like because I believe everybody puts a lot of hard work into their music. That’s why I always tell people, I’m not an angel. That is why I encourage people to just enjoy the music. It is the music I am giving you, not my personal life, not who I am.

My first crush and boyfriend

I can remember him. I think I ‘died’ for him so much I cannot remember how he toasted me. You know when you like a boy so much and you try to catch his attention. He was my elder brother’s very good friend and it was like a taboo to have anything to do with your elder brother’s friend. The elder brother would beat both the friend and the sister. That was the sort of position I was in. I still collected the beatings because when you are blinded with love, you would stick with the boy no matter what. Eventually, we were so in love for a long time.

What influences my fashion sense

I try to be comfortable and look good as much as I can. It is not easy but I try. I’m not much of a fashion icon. I just know you wear fine blouse or skirt. I find it difficult to accessorise or match colours. I don’t know all those type of things. I started hearing it when I came to Lagos. I am a Warri girl. Before now, I was all about my shirt and jeans. Some people say they like Omawumi but they wish I would dress better or that I need a stylist. I would tell you that it is fine. I wish I would have a stylist, but in a situation where I don’t have one, as I dress, take it like that. The most important thing is that I am putting out good music. The minute I become a 360 artiste – where I am selling my fashion as well as my music, then you can criticise but till then, accept me as I am.

Nigerians no longer have respect for their elders – Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday affirmed that Nigerians have lost the values for hard work, respect for their elders, truthfulness, honesty, contentment, humility, patience and all moral virtues.

The president blamed cultism, armed robbery, murder, kidnapping and other social vices in the country on its citizens.
Jonathan, who was represented by the Ministerof Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Ms. Ama Pepple, made this known at the official flag-off of National Christian Campaign on Social Transformation, tagged: Be The Change You Want To See, organised by the Christian Association of Nigeria,CAN, in Abuja.

According to Jonathan, no doubt, Nigerians have lost their moral values and principles andthat so much have gone wrong in family lives, schools, churches and the society in general. He added that Nigerians have lost the values for hard work, respect for their elders, truthfulness, honesty, contentment, humility, patience and all moral virtues.
“Our priorities are misplaced.

We have trained our children to insult elders, parents fight teachers who discipline their children and so we have been reproducing badly behaved children, who come under peers influences.

The church itself has not always done what it should do, some of the teachings in some of our churches have turned the Bible upside down, the Bible is meant to teach us that which is right and help us to do righteous things.” He added.

Residents Of Nigerian Village In Taraba State Don't Wear Clothes (SEE PHOTOS)

This may look like a screen shot from the popular movie 'The gods must be crazy' but hey!! this is real and yeah, they literally still live in the stone age. Poverty and diseases ravage their land, like locusts. A good number of them still dress in the manner of, the Biblical Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden -- stark Unclad -- with fresh leaves for a little covering. You are welcome to the top of the Gerinjina mountain in Gashaka Local Government area of Taraba State.

It was like a story from Mars when a casual talk to the hearing of this reporter indicated that there was a community up the mountain that lived worse than those of the Koma people who were discovered in the mid-1980s by a group of National youth corps members in the then Gongola State, now split into Adamawa and Taraba states. While the Koma community resides in Adamawa State, the new Stone Age people are in Taraba State.
They are called, the Jibu people and they are descendants of the Kwarafa Kingdom who lived for centuries in nine communities scattered around on the mountains in Gashaka.
Historical accounts have it that the people lived together with their fellow brothers in the kingdom until about 1807 when Fulani Jihadists invaded the kingdom.
They were said to have run to the mountain top where they now live and are completely cut off from other tribes, and by extension the whole world. Not even the activities of the colonial masters reached them, largely because of the difficult terrain of their new abode. The mountain top is characterised by rivers, deep gullies and huge rocks.
Just like any other group of human beings, the Jibu people have their ways of life. These include collective circumcision of boys born within the same age group, a ceremony performed with the use sharp objects.
It is considered a test of strength and character for their boys not to cry during the ceremony. The circumcised are kept on bamboo beds and covered with fresh leaves that are gathered and burnt after the wound has healed.
For a young Jibu man to get a wife, he must serve the family of his bride for five years. Nonetheless, the marriage is determined by the capacity of the woman to conceive. This is measured by a dried long firewood that is set on fire for at least three months, within which if the woman does not become pregnant, the simple communication is the gods do not want the marriage.
Pregnant women work on the farms to the day of their delivery.
They have a communal life and are ruled by the Waziri Garinjina, Tann Shidin Zunbi, who confirmed in an interview with the Nigerian Compass on Saturday that maternal and child mortality rates are high among them.
The Jibu people are neither Christians nor Muslims. Rather, they believe in their own gods and the ancestors.
In an event of violation of their natural laws by any individual, animals are slaughtered to appease the land. It is also a similar story during every cropping season. The harvests are brought before the Waziri for sacrifice to the gods, after which their brand of liquor is prepared for everybody to drink in merriment. Incidentally too, the Jibu people believe that some gods are not friendly with women. Thus, throughout the period of ritual preparations, women remain indoors to avoid being exposed to the gods who could be harmful to them.
When our correspondent visited Gerinjina, their condition of living was worse than that of the much-talked about Koma people. There is no access road. They drink water with animals from the same rivers. In their scattered settlement system, there is no school around except for some missionaries who have a thatched space for that purpose but is yet to have any student. After a day's job on the farm, their women still have the task of grinding raw corn with heavy stones before food is ready for their male counterparts.

Four NANS Leaders Die In Auto Accident On Way To University of uYo

The Senate President of the National Association of Nigerian Students, Donald Onukaoguu, and four other students have been killed in a road crash.
The accident scene where NANS leaders died near Owo in Ondo State
The students met their end yesterday on their way to the University of Uyo, Akwa-Ibom State, to intervene in the current crisis rocking that institution.
The lone survivor for the accident claimed that an illegal road block mounted by the police was responsible for the tragedy. Now he is receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia,
It would be recalled that yesterday, the police killed several students during a protest organized by students of Engineering at the university. That prompted the decision of the NANS leaders to embark on the urgent trip to Akwa-Ibom.
The Engineering students were protesting against new transport fees and other anti-student policies, including the contentious “No pay, No examination” policy.
Confirming the death of his colleagues this morning, the President of NANS, Yinka Gbadebo, blamed the tragedy on the police.
“The police under the current IGP killed nine students within one week, the police action is barbaric and we call for the immediate resignation of the IGP, Mohammed Dikko Abubakar."
However, it is yet unclear how the incident happened. The survivor of the crash claimed that the police mounted an illegal road block by putting heavy logs and stones on the road and that the unsuspecting students, who were travelling in a NANS bus rammed into the illegal barrier.
According to him, the police ran away immediately the accident occurred. Another source, has, however controverted that account, claiming that a trailer crushed the students’ vehicle.
The Nigerian police have a poor reputation of extra-judicial killings. "We are closing down all campuses in Nigeria and national action will commence immediately," Mr. Gbadebo threatened.
In a similar occurrence last February, nine students of the Nasarawa State University in Keffi, died in a road accident at Mararaba, Karu Local Government Area as they fled from soldiers who attacked them during a campus protest.
The soldiers killed several students on the scene protest. In July last year, three students’ union leaders were killed on the Owo–Akure Road.
They were the Student Union Presidents of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Comrade Awopegba Oluwaseun, Comrade Akintola Abiodun of the Adeyemi College of Education, and Comrade Oyikan Olotu of the Ondo State School of Midwifery, Akure.

Ibadan pipeline explosion: We’ve resumed pumping of petroleum products – NNPC

Ibadan pipelineLAGOS—The Management of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Sunday said it had successfully clamped the ruptured point along the Mosimi–Ibadan line and resumed fuel supply operation to Ibadan and its environs.

  • The repairs came less than 24 hours after men suspected to be oil thieves ruptured the Mosimi–Ibadan fuel supply pipeline along the crucial System 2B Pipeline network, which erupted into an inferno  weekend.
The Acting Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, NNPC, Ms. Tumini Green, in a statement said a team of engineers and technologists from the NNPC and its downstream subsidiary, the Pipelines and Products Marketing Company, PPMC, worked assiduously over the weekend to restore the line to normal operation.
    fire-outbreak
The NNPC spokesperson said the Corporation responded quickly because of its determination to ensure that Nigerians do not experience any form of scarcity in petroleum products supply on account of the activities of some unpatriotic citizens.
“At exactly 20.06 hrs on Saturday, the Mosimi–Ibadan line was re-streamed after repair works at the ruptured point. While we remain committed to our resolve in ensuring unimpeded distribution of petroleum products across the country despite the mounting odds, we call on members of the public to support the NNPC and the security agencies in this fight against oil thieves and pipeline hackers,” the statement read in part.
The NNPC called on Ibadan residents and the adjoining communities to refrain from panic buying or hoarding of petroleum products in anticipation of scarcity.
    Litany of vandalism
Efforts by the NNPC to ensure unimpeded distribution of products through its vast artery of pipelines have come under serious threats due to the activities of oil thieves especially along the System 2B Pipeline network, which accounts for a third of products supply in the country.
The Corporation said there have been over 774 ruptured points between August and October, 2012 along the System 2B line, adding that it is currently working with the Engineering Corps of the Nigerian Army to clear the pipeline right of way from the Atlas Cove in Lagos to the Ilorin Depot in KwaraState.
The Corporation is also introducing the Horizontal Direct Drilling System, HDD to redirect the pipelines from the reach of vandals.
Pipeline vandalism and crude oil theft has attained a worrisome dimension over the years, with the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, PENGASSAN, saying the country loses about N954 billion ($6 billion) to crude oil theft annually.
Last year, the Minister of Petroleum Resources said Nigeria lost about N1.908 trillion ($12 billion) to pipeline vandalism and oil theft in 2011, while adding that of the total amount, $5 billion was spent on pipeline repairs, while the amount lost to crude theft was valued at $7 billion.
Confirming this, the Minister of Finance and Coordinator of the Economy, Mrs. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala said Nigeria is losing an estimated 400,000 barrels per day (bpd) of crude oil, resulting in about 17 per cent reduction in export sales, costing the nation’s treasury about $14 billion in 2011 alone.
Also, the PPMC said Nigeria lost about N165 billion in the last four years to pipeline vandalism, adding that the sum includes the cost of repairs and products theft.
Managing Director of PPMC, Mr. Haruna Momoh, noted that the activities of vandals at Arepo in particular, and products theft across the country had become a recurring national embarrassment and had cost the country, N165 billion between 2009 and 2012.
He added that on a number of occasions, the vandals at Arepo, who have become notorious in their operations, attacked personnel of PPMC with guns and other dangerous weapons, and prevented them from fixing the damaged pipelines.
This, he said, led to the death of a number of personnel over the years and had brought about a huge cost on PPMC in the area of repair of the vandalised pipelines.
He said: “In one case, the vandals killed one of our personnel, who had gone to fix a vandalised pipeline and buried him in an unknown grave. It took the intervention of the management of PPMC, who pleaded with the community for several days before they could show us the grave, allowing us to exhume the body so as to give the personnel a befitting burial.”

Tension in APC over sharing of offices

  • apcHere is tension in the yet-to-be registered main merger opposition party, All Progressive Congress, over distribution of offices.
The APC is a product of a merger between the Action Congress of Nigeria, Congress for Progressive Change, All Nigeria Peoples Party and a faction of the All Progressives Grand Alliance and it has an avowed mission to dislodge the PDP from power in 2015.
Already, sources within the APC on Sunday confided in our correspondents that there had been disagreements over the sharing of party offices among the stakeholders from the different parties.
Investigations showed that the CPC and the ANPP disagreed over the post of the National Secretary, which the former insisted must be given to it.
A source within the APC confided in one of our correspondents that, “the ANPP, specifically Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, wanted the position of the protem National Secretary but was schemed out.
“The CPC and the ACN conspired. The CPC insisted on the position of secretary or nothing. Those in the ANPP are not excited about this.
“There is also a proposal that the CPC in addition to producing the secretary will get the presidential slot while the ACN gets the chairmanship of the party in addition to producing the Vice-Presidential candidate.”
Shekarau was the ANPP presidential candidate in the 2011 elections and he has been  one of the major forces behind the merger agreement.
The ACN, CPC and ANPP have already scheduled a meeting for this week to resolve alleged disagreements over sharing of offices.
National Publicity Secretary of the ANPP, Chief Emma Eneukwu, however said he was unaware of any such disagreement.
According to him, there is nothing to suggest that the ANPP has any disagreement with the arrangement made by the leadership of the APC.
He said, “I am not aware of this. I know of the arrangement that we have with regards to the constitution of the Interim Management Committee. If there is any disagreement, my party has not told me about it.
“But I know that there is an agreement that each of the three parties will produce one member each in the IMC.
“There are only three positions: Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer, so there is no way one party can take two positions out of three.”
He noted that the desperation of those who are scared of the rising profile of the APC could be responsible for the spreading of deliberate falsehood and misinformation.
Speaking in the same vein, National Publicity Secretary of the ACN, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, accused the PDP and some unnamed “jittery forces” of peddling the rumour about the disagreement within the ranks of the opposition on the sharing of offices.
He said there was no iota of truth in the rumour making the rounds that the ranks of the APC had been polarised because of this.
“That is the handiwork of the ruling party and those jittery because of the coming together of the opposition political parties under the banner of APC,” Mohammed said.
Asked about when the yet-to-be registered party would submit its application to the Independent National Electoral Commission for registration, he said that would be done “soon.”
The National Publicity Secretary of the CPC, Mr. Rotimi Fashakin, said the main business before the proposed party at the moment was the issue of registration.
According to him, it is when the party becomes duly registered that the issue of the distribution of offices will come to play.
“It is when the issue of registration is settled that we can discuss other issues. Even at that, we recognise the fact that no sacrifice is too much to remove this indignity that the (President Goodluck) Jonathan administration represents,” he said in a telephone interview with one of our correspondents on Sunday.
He also took time off to explain that the national leadership of the party was doing everything within its power to ensure that no loose end was left untied.
Fahakin said, “What we have done is that the national leadership of our party reasoned that, look, since we don’t have a template, even INEC doesn’t have a template to hand to us; you know the concept of merger is a novelty in this country.
“That is why everybody is looking at the Constitution and the Electoral Act, we are trying our best to ensure we get things right.
“For now, the National Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer of each of the merging political parties making a total of nine, have been saddled with the responsibility of writing to INEC.”
He explained that only political parties who had held their conventions and had agreed to the merger at this level were entitled to write INEC.
The ACN, ANPP and CPC are expected to write INEC, signifying their intension to merge this week.
In a related development, there are strong indications that APGA may not field candidates in the next set of elections in 2015.
This is due to the protracted crisis rocking the party. Informed sources within the factionalised party confided in The PUNCH that APGA’s internal crisis is not likely to end soon.
Chief Victor Umeh leads one faction of the party while Chief Maxi Okwu leads the other.
A leading member of the party and Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, has approached the leadership of the APC signalling his intension to drag APGA into the merger.

Oritsejafor working for Jonathan’s 2015 agenda –Buhari

  • OritsejaforA former Head of State, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has accused the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, of working for the re-election bid of President Goodluck Jonathan.
Buhari said with many statements credited to the pastor concerning him (Buhari), it was evident that he was desperate to help the electoral fortunes of the President.
The former head of state, in a statement on Sunday, said this while responding to the call for his arrest by the CAN President.
The CAN president had said in a statement last week that Buhari was a prime leader of the Boko Haram sect, and should therefore be arrested for questioning.
Oritsejafor had said, “He (Buhari) is, therefore, the prime leader of this religious and blood thirsty sect called Boko Haram, a movement that is based on a warped interpretation of a strict adherence to force people of other religions into Islam.
“This kind of fundamentalism is the driving force behind his failure in each election in the country.”
But Buhari, in a statement by the National Publicity Secretary of the Congress for Progressive Change, Rotimi Fashakin, described Oritsejafor’s statement as lacking in facts.
He said, “It is our view that this statement is utterly tendentious and unsupportable by incontrovertible facts.
“We are aware that as it was before and after the 2011 elections, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor is keen on helping the electoral fortunes of his friend, President Goodluck Jonathan.”
While enumerating Buhari’s stand on Boko Haram, whose activities he said had been condemned by the former head of state, Fashakin also described the CAN’s president’s call as reckless.
He said, “We leave discerning Nigerians to judge and see the incongruity in Pastor Oritsejafor’s reckless call and GMB’s unwavering patriotic stand on Nigeria’s insecurity.
“Again, Pastor Oritsejafor has proven to be a willing implement for destabilisation in the hands of the Presidency, in the orchestrated heckling of GMB ahead of the 2015 elections.
“The moral rectitude, personal discipline and patriotic love for Nigeria by GMB is head and shoulder above what the current leaders of the nation possess.
“GMB is not in the mould of leaders that do not match their words with deeds. In the run to the 2011 election, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan told an unsuspecting nation, “My ambition is not worth the blood of anybody. But truly, his electioneering campaign was trailed by blood, tears and woes.”

I Wasted Six Years Of My Life With Jim Iyke – Keturah Hamilton

Jim Iyke’s sad and heartbroken Jamaican ex-fiancee Keturah Hamilton describes in details how the breakup affected her.
“These days, I ask God: Why has thou forsaken me? How can a man with whom we had gone through the highs and the lows – a man who had professed so much undying love for me over the past six years just walk away like that? I don’t know what happened and I wish I could put a finger on it. He took away six years of memories, of support of love and all that I did for him – just like that. How mean and callous can one get?Jim
  • Jim was supposed to come to New York and stay for six months, during which time, he would go to an acting school here in New York and then we would move to Los Angeles and get married and pursue our acting dreams. I was looking forward to that with eagerness and then he just walked away” she began to sob according to Diasporan Star
Asked what could have been the reason for such a change of heart, Keturah said “we had problems like normal lovers do, but we always resolved them amicably. I know there was something Jim asked me to do, which I didn’t want to do right away, but that should not have made him to do what he did.” Pressed to reveal what it was that Jim wanted him to do, she said it was personal.

nadia-buari-and-jim-iyke-at-Ghana-Music-AwardsKeturah said she feels used and dumped “I played along in the reality show as if I truly was a jealous and crazy lover. It was an act, but now I feel as if Jim set me up. He is a wicked man. I stood by him through all his troubles and tribulations. I helped bring him to the limelight when the light of his career was dimming. He is an ingrate and I leave him to God.”
One area that seems to have pained Keturah more appears to be the rumor making the rounds that Jim left her for the Ghanaian actress Nadia Buari. “That is the rumor I have heard and I know it is not just a rumor. They have been hooking up in Ghana. They were together at Tuface’s wedding and appear to be everywhere together. I just can’t believe Jim would be this ungrateful – after all I have done for him. I have not been able to accept this and I am truly in a state of shock. If Jim could treat me the way he did, after six years of being there for him, supporting him, encouraging him in all that he did, then I wish Nadia the best of luck.”
Jim according to sources is living in Nadia’s house in Ghana and is constantly seen driving her car on the streets of Accrathe Ghanaian capital. He is said to have told friends he and Nadia are mere friends, but most people find that difficult to believe.
Meanwhile, Keturah appears to have moved on with her life. “I am a strong woman and I am moving ahead with my life. God cannot give you that which He will not provide you the platform to stand and deal with. I wish the best in his life.”

Three Nigerians Jailed For Fraud in UK (PICTURED)

Three Nigerians who tried to trick their way to a new life in the UK through sham marriage and illegal employment have been jailed.

Henrietta Samugana, 32, Oluwatobi Adegbenro, 36, and his brother Olaseni Adegbenro, 30, were sentenced to 12 months, eight months and 12 months respectively when they appeared in court yesterday.

All three had overstayed their visas, but Samugana had used a fake Dutch ID card in the name of Carina Centeno to fraudulently get employment as a support worker at a care home.

Later investigations found that she had used the false identity to marry Olaseni, and made three requests to the Home Office asking that her husband be granted UK residency – all were refused.

An operation involving police and immigration enforcement officers was launched, and they discovered a fraudulent UK driving license in the name of Oluwatobi Adegbenro at the trio’s flat in Yunus Khan Close, Walthamstow, where all three were living.

Robert Braybrook, from Home Office immigration enforcement, said: “These people treated the UK’s immigration laws with contempt, overstaying their visas and then attempting to use a variety of illegal and fraudulent means to remain in the country and obtain work to which they were not entitled.

“This case sends a clear message that people who ignore immigration law do so at their peril. They will be caught and they will be brought to justice.”

The trio had pleaded guilty to the charges against them at an earlier hearing.

Samugana admitted using a false ID card and fraud, Oluwatobi Adegnbenro and Olaseni Adegbenro both admitted possession of false ID documents with intent and seeking leave to remain in the UK by deception.

German Bank Employee Falls Asleep On Keyboard, Transfers Millions

A tired German bank employee fell asleep on his keyboard and accidentally transformed a minor transfer into a 222 million euro ($311 million) order, a court heard.

The Hessen labour court heard that the man was supposed to transfer just 62.40 euros from a bank account belonging to a retiree, but instead “fell asleep for an instant, while pushing onto the number 2 key on the keyboard” – making it a huge 222,222,222.22 euro order.

The bank discovered the mistake shortly afterwards and corrected the error.

The case was taken to court by the man’s 48-year-old colleague who was fired for letting the mistake slip through when verifying the order.

The court ruled that the plaintiff should be reinstated in his job.

#BBATheChase Breaking News: Selly Disqualified?

Ruby House dancing Queen and now notorious rabble-rouser, Selly, was on the receiving end of a severe talking to by Big Brother this evening. In case you missed it, the Ghanaian stunned her fellow Housemates and viewers alike during the Channel O party on Saturday night, when she dumped a glass full of alcohol over Pokello's head with absolutely no provocation that would warrant such.

This evening, Big Brother called all the Rubies, who have talked about the incident in hushed tones since it happened, to the lounge to hand out his punishment. Deafening silence descended over the House as full, uncut footage of the incident was beamed into the House. The culprit, Selly, looked on in what looked to be sheer agony and embarrassment as she was exposed for all to see.

When asked to explain herself in the Diary Room, a panic-stricken Selly told Big Brother she delivered her golden booze shower because Pokello is a good dancer. "I poured alcohol over Pokello's head to show her that she was really dancing well. I didn't do it to provoke her because we get along. I realised later that she didn't find it amusing. We have spoken about it and I have apologised”, she said. Selly went on to reveal how she does the same in Ghana when her friends excel on the dance floor.

When Selly emerged from the Diary Room to apologise once again, Pokello told her "It's okay. Don't worry about it". Take a look at the footage below and share your thoughts. Was Selly giving props or was she trying to stir up trouble?

Big Brother has introduced a Strike Wall that will serve as a reminder that Housemates are not a law unto themselves. This particular incident happens to be Selly's first strike and should she receive three more strikes, she will be expelled from the game.

Shoe Maker Caught Red-Handed with fresh human parts in Ibadan (Photo)

Residents of Soka area, along Ire-Akari Estate, Ibadan, Oyo State, were shocked to hear that one of them, a popular shoe maker in the area, Mr Kazeem Bamidele, also known as Kazzy International Shoe Works, had been arrested with human parts. Saturday Tribune learnt that Bamidele was arrested on Monday night in connection with the alleged murder of a Northerner, said to be an okada rider. The police, it was gathered, led him to his wooden shop on Friday morning and, according to sources, discovered fresh human head and legs of the victim where they were kept inside a bush behind his shop.
Aarest
Sources further informed Saturday Tribune that Bamidele and his accomplice were busy perpetrating this criminal act on Sunday, around 1.00 a.m, when two vigilance members serving as security officers in the area became suspicious, and asked them why they stayed so late in the night.
According to sources, the vigilance group members saw two people around the bushy path in the area, one holding a knife while the other was holding a gun.
The two vigilance group members were said to have been surprised to see one of the two men aiming his gun at them. The vigilance group members then demanded to know what their mission was in that area at that time of the day.
A source told Saturday Tribune: “On that fateful day, some members of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) who are also vigilance men in this area saw the man (Bamidele) with another man in the night. When the OPC men asked them what they were doing in the middle of the night, one of them who was holding a knife told them that he wanted to use it to cut coconut. His partner was holding a gun.
“We were told that the OPC men had to confront them that almost everybody living around the area knew them as security guys; that the suspects themselves could not deny that they knew them. After minutes of conversation, Bamidele and his partner could not hold it again, giving the OPC men opportunity to move close to them. That was what gave them the opportunity to look through where they discovered what they were doing.
“They saw a body of a human being whose head and arms had been cut off. They (Bamidele and accomplice) were still trying to cut something from the victim’s throat. The area was littered with blood, and at that point, the OPC men raised an alarm, arrested them and attempted to invite the police.”
Police sources confirmed the development and informed Saturday Tribune that the suspects were currently under interrogation.
When Saturday Tribune visited Sanyo Police Station, the case was said to have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Iyaganku, Ibadan. On getting to the SCID, it was discovered that the suspects were under interrogation, new discoveries having been made on the matter.
“The case is still under investigation, especially when new discoveries were made. There can’t be any comment on it now until the completion of the on-going investigation,” a police source said.
Meanwhile, some of the residents who spoke with the Saturday Tribune under condition of anonymity said nobody noticed that Bamidele was involved in such act. They said the story was like a rumour to them until Friday morning when some people suspected to be police officers came in company with the victim and fished out fresh human parts where they had been hidden in the bush behind his workshop.
One of them said, “Everybody believed it was a rumour until this morning (Friday) that we saw the fresh human head with the man. That means one must be very careful in this area.”
When Saturday Tribune visited Bamidele’s shop on Friday morning, one young man who refused to give his name, but was described as his (Bamidele’s) apprentice, was seen in the shop.

I Almost Stopped Acting Out of Frustration – Nollywood actress, Grace Amah

  • Grace
The Nollywood actress is amongst the select few who have managed to live a scandal free life amongst other peers who often have one issue or the other to deal with. For some time now, she has been in oblivion with her beautiful face not adoring the movie jackets like she did for many years and many wondered why she became a scarce commodity in their silver screens.
While some speculated that Amah might have gone underground because of her child, others believed her marital error shouldn’t have caused her absence in films.
    Having been mute on the that issue for long, Grace decided to open up on what the circumstances surrounding the prolonged absence entailed;
“The latest about me is that I am back in the (movie) industry. Motherhood kept me away from acting.”
    She however noted other extraneous factors that kept her off the screen as well;
“There were times things didn’t really flow well with me in the industry, roles were not coming in as I expected. I felt a bit down about it, so I had to leave.”
Most actors and actresses have taken the mantel of producing movies on their own in order to have a trade going and get a living even in times when roles from producers wasn’t forthcoming. So maybe it will be worthwhile if Grace considers that option as well.Grace 1
