Emeka Ugwuonye, US-Based Lawyer Found Guilty Of Defrauding Nigerian Government $1.55 Million

Emeka Ugwuonye, US-Based Lawyer Found Guilty Of Defrauding Nigerian Government $1.55 Million
A US-based Nigerian lawyer, Emeka Ugwuonye, resident in the state of Maryland, was a big loser today at the United States District Court for the District of Columbia which entered a default judgment against his law firm, ECU Associates.
The court covered it to refund the controversial $1.55m belonging to the Nigerian government.
The court entered the judgment after the firm failed to defend the case “despite multiple opportunities to do so”.
In a judgment Tuesday, Judge Barbara J. Rothstein, granted the Nigerian embassy’s prayers that Mr. Ugwuonye’s firm be made to refund N1.55m it stole from the Nigerian government.

The court also opened a window of opportunity for the embassy to provide sufficient information to it that would enable it to determine, against Mr. Ugwuonye’s firm, an appropriate damages amount for pre- and post-judgment interest on the money, punitive damages and costs and reasonable attorneys’ fees.

Speaking after the judgment, the Nigerian ambassador to the United States, Prof Ade Adefuye, described the judgment as a vindication of his stand that Ugwuonye and his company had defrauded the Nigerian people.

“This guy has played all manner of tricks to scare us away from trying him for fraud.” “He wrote all kinds of lies to smear my character and that of the embassy. He fought us but we remained firm. Now his days of reckoning has come and this is a message to people like him that the war against corruption is on course and that we will fight corrupt elements no matter whose ox is gored. The money he took with recklessness and impunity belongs to the Nigerian people and I can’t be here and not recover it.”

Ugwuonye’s current legal troubles began in 2009 when New York-based SaharaReporters reported an alleged real estate transactions involving the Nigerian embassy, questioning why the properties were auctioned off at giveaway prices with the help of a lawyer with “professional baggage”

Worshiper Gives Used Condom As Offering At Pentecostal Church In Nigeria

“Offering time, blessing time!” So goes the chorus
from members of the congregation whenever it’s
time to give offering in most churches. To most Christians, the offering time is, indeed, a
time of immense financial blessing. But recently,
the offering time turned into a moment of hot curses
in a Lagos church when an already used condom,
dripping with semen, was discovered inside the
offering box after the Sunday service. It was like a weird dream, according to the former
Chairman, Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN),
Ogba Zone, Prophet Tobi Okonkwo, who witnessed
the incident. The cleric said he couldn’t believe his
eyes when a discarded condom, with stains, was
discovered in an envelope in the offertory box of his former church.
When Pope Paul VI warned on June 29, 1972 that
the smoke of Satan had entered the church, not
many Christians took the warning seriously.
With this recent incident, Okonkwo admitted that the
agents of darkness had infiltrated the churches in large numbers and now occupy high-ranking
positions in the gathering of God’s children, where
they wreak untold havoc on the unwary flock.
Okonkwo, who is also the General Overseer of
Living Word Prayer Assembly, Agege, Lagos, wept
over man’s ingratitude to God during a recent monthly thanksgiving programme of the church,
tagged Manna from Heaven.
Although the service was a joyful moment where the
shepherd distributes food items and other gifts to
his flock, his startling revelation brought a hush of
silence on the congregation. His words pierced the hearts of the worshippers, as
he explained how man had become ungrateful to
divine benevolence. His several instances of the
atrocities committed in hallowed places pointed to
the fact that messengers from hell now walked
about freely in hallowed places. “It is really bad. It has got to a point where some people come to the
church to mock God. They are anti-Christ but they
still go to church. You could imagine how somebody
came to the church and decided to give a used
condom in an envelope to God.
You can see how wicked man has become,” he said. Okonkwo said the giver of the abominable gift
refused to confess his crime, even when the entire
church rained curses profusely on whosoever was
responsible.
He said, “A curse was laid on the person. Even
before the people laid the curse, God had already seen the abomination committed in his house by
someone, who pretended he came to the church to
worship God.” The former PFN leader warned other members of
the church of the reality of the anti-Christ, whose
reign would usher ungodliness in the world. He
lamented that prosperity message has taken over
the pulpit at the neglect of the gospel of repentance,
which had enslaved many hearts in pleasure and love of the world.
According to him, most Christians hunger for
sermons that promise easy wealth, while rejecting
teachings that encourage chastity, discipline,
endurance and faithfulness.
“The style of the anti-Christ is to mock Jesus. Many Christians today are crucifying Christ a second time.
It’s really sad and unfortunate,” he said. The cleric
decried the approval of same s*x marriage by
different countries, describing the constitutional
recognition accorded to such couples as an
indication of the reign of anti-Christ in the world. Rather than milk his members dry, Okonkwo said he
introduced a programme, Manna from Heaven, to
feed the flock of Christ with the little he could afford.
He said the programme involved sharing of bags of
rice, noodles and other foodstuff on equal measures
to all the members to inculcate in them the love for sharing and concern for their suffering neighbour.
Okonkwo also berated some pastors who, according
to him, start Christian ministries and involve
themselves in dubious things all in a bid to acquire
wealth and fame. He said such ones worship money
as their god. “For them to get money, they end up preaching prosperity.
Salvation messages are not often on their lips. The
church is not supposed to be a business but most
people have turned it into a business.
It is quite unfortunate,” he said. Aside the sacrileges
committed in churches, Okonkwo, who had earlier predicted the emergence of Jonathan as President
during the ailing days of late President Umaru Musa
Yar’Adua, also frowned at the various scandals
rocking political offices and other sectors of the
economy.
He said most Nigerians have lost the sense of sanity, citing the many cases of corruption in the
country. According to him, no day passes without
the disclosure of one fresh set of financial scandal
or the other.
He lamented that the financial blood of the country
was being drained by some thieving elite with no interest of the masses at heart. Although Okonkwo
foreclosed the chances of possible disintegration of
the country, he warned corrupt leaders to repent or
face the wrath of heaven.
According to him, only selfless leaders would bring
the nation back from the brink of monumental crisis and repair the ruins caused by corruption and bad
leadership in the country.

Nigerian Pastor Kunle Odafe pleads guilty to defiling a minor

Nigerian Pastor Kunle Odafe pleads guilty to defiling a minor
An Omu-Aran Upper Area Court, Kwara, on Thursday admitted a cleric, Kunle Odafe, to N50,000 bail with two sureties in like sum for allegedly defiling a minor.
Odafe, 31, a pastor who lives at Obagunke Area, Omu-Aran, had earlier been refused bail on his arraignment on April 12 on a one-count charge of gross indecent act to which he had pleaded guilty.
He was ordered to be remanded in Omu-Aran Medium Prison by the Judge Fagbemi Adeyemi for the police to conclude their investigation.

Adeyemi said the pastor’s action constituted a nuisance to the society, adding that Odafe ought to be an exemplary leader and a role model.
“How on earth will you involve yourself in such an ignoble act of defiling a girl whose life you are expected to shape?
“You are hereby remanded in prison for the police to conclude their investigation.”
Ruling on the bail application, Adeyemi said he reconsidered Odafe for bail because he was a first offender and did not waste the time of the court.
“The case of indecent act, especially when it involves a minor, is not ordinarily a bailable offence under the Penal Code.
“I granting you bail because you did not waste the time of the court and also as a first offender.
“You should therefore change your attitude for the better,” Adeyemi said.
He adjourned the case till May 7 for sentencing.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Fabiyi Abiodun, had told the court that Odafe, attached to St. Moses Orimolade C&S Movement Church, Omu-Aran, committed the act between April 2 and April 9.
He said one Olajide of Obagunke Area, Omu-Aran, had on April 3 reported that a 12-year-old girl was missing.
Abiodun said police investigation led to the discovery of the girl in the custody of Odafe, who also confessed to have had unlawful carnal knowledge in contravention of Section 285 of the Penal Code.
The prosecutor urged the court to remand the accused in prison pending the conclusion of investigation into the case.
“The uncooperative attitude of the accused could jeopardise police investigation if granted bail,” he had said. (NAN)

Nollywood star actress, Shan George may be beautiful and have a good sense of humour but she is one woman who will not discuss issue of marriage with anybody due to the fact that she has been so unfortunate in that aspect. Poisionous Amala Meal Wipes Out Three Members Of A Family In Ogun State

The little boy who survived the tragedy
The little boy who survived the tragedy
Three members of a family, Isioma Ufili, 4, Victoria Ufili, 30 (mother) and Favour Nkiruka Ufili, 26, have died after eating a meal of yam flour, better known as amala.
The mother, Victoria, prepared and served the meal at their 85, Opeilu Road, Agbado, Ogun State, southwest Nigeria.
The family’s last born, a nine-month old baby boy, survived having sucked his mother’s breasts after she ate the meal.
He was treated at Overcomers Hospital, Agbado-Crossing alongside his mother, who later died at the same hospital. Mr. Ufili, a petty trader, didn’t eat from the meal because he was away at work.
P.M.NEWS gathered that last Saturday, Mrs. Ufili went to the market after which she prepared the amala meal suspected to be poisonous for her family to eat.
Shortly after taking the meal in the evening, it was Isioma that first complained of stomach pains, after which she started vomiting.
A few minutes later, the mother had the same symptoms and both of them were rushed to Overcomers Hospital, Agbado-Crossing.
“But they rejected Isioma because her case was too critical and referred her to Ifako General Hospital. From there she was also referred to the Ikeja General Hospital. She eventually died at the Ikeja General Hospital at about 6am on Monday, the same day the sister, Favour and mother, Victoria eventually died,” Mr. Charles Ikechukwu, the younger brother of Mr. Ufili told P.M.NEWS.
Ikechukwu explained that a few hours after Isioma’s death, they received a call from the Ifako General Hospital.
“When we got there, they told us that Mrs. Ufili had died. They also said that we should take care of the baby because he was also vomiting, having sucked his mother’s breasts.”
Mrs. Ufili’s body has been deposited at the mortuary.
P.M.NEWS further gathered that they returned from Isioma’s burial at Matori Cemetery, Ladipo-Oshodi, Lagos, only to find Favour’s corpse inside their rented apartment.
“She had also vomited all over the place, and her body was already stiff. This is the biggest tragedy I have ever seen- losing three members of my family in one day,” Mr. Ufili wept.
Favour’s body has been taken to their village in the eastern part of Nigeria for burial.
The case, Ikechukwu added, was reported at the Agbado Divisional Police Headquarters, “but up till now, they have not taken any action. They were just giving us some excuses, so we decided to leave everything to God.”
“This is a case of food poisoning. Something must have happened to their food. But who is to be suspected? Who are we going to hold responsible? My brother had no quarrel with anybody, likewise the wife,” Ikechukwu stated.
When our reporter visited the house where the incident occurred, the Ufili family apartment was shut while the landlord and other tenants of the house were said to have temporarily moved out of the house.

As Navy battles oil theft with Twitter

An illustration
According to the statistics provided by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Nigeria  has lost N191bn ($1.23bn) to oil theft and vandalism between January and March this year. This development, no doubt, threatens the country’s revenue base.
The Nigeria Navy seems to be rising up to the challenge to end the incessant crude oil theft and pipeline vandalism, with a view to meeting  the national target of 2.48mbpd.
The NN is deploying the use of information and communication technology with the launching of a new website, www.cot.navy.mil.ng, specially dedicated to crude oil theft.
A visit to the site on Thursday shows that apart from serving as a platform to share information and exchange ideas with the international community, the site also has a link for reporting  suspicious activities of vandals.
There is link to an email address tell@cot.navy.mil.ng  embedded on the website with the tag, “Click here to report Suspicious Activity.” Besides, different social media accounts have been formed for the campaign. For instance there is a Facebook account, Nigeriannavycot, as well as a Twitter handle @NigerianNavyCOT. The bio on the Twitter handle reads, “Join the Nigerian Navy in saying No Crude Oil Theft.”
The Nigerian Navy also utilised infographics and audiovisuals to explain the menace of oil theft and vandalism on its new website.
However, more needs to be done. It appears that the Facebook and Twitter accounts, which have been plugged in on the website for the purpose of the campaign, are not being regularly updated.  The last time an update appeared on the Facebook account created on April 2, was on April 19.
Also, it appears that the person managing the Twitter account went on holidays since April 14, the day he sent out the only five tweets on the account. Updating the social media accounts regularly  will go a long way in making the members of the general public aware of the need to buy into the campaign.
Meanwhile, Nigerians on social networks have been divided on the efficacy of the initiative of the NN. Many of them argued that the inaccessibility of Internet connection by the first-hand witnesses of incidence of vandalism and oil theft might not make the ICT campaign effective.
“This initiative is okay but the main people who are first-hand witnesses to these theft may not report it, not because they don’t want to, but because they may not have access to the internet,” Ada, a  member of the popular online forum, nairaland.com notes.
Another member of the forum, Shortblackboy says, apart from deploying ICT for reporting issues of vandalism, the Nigerian Navy should also warn its men against aiding and abetting the culprits.
“The navy should appeal to its men to stop assisting illegal oil bunkering. And the government officials should stop stealing oil revenue before they tell common thieves to stop,” he argues.
Commenting on the newly developed website, a visitor, Anayo Uchegbu, advocated diligent prosecution of those caught in the act after reporting via the website, irrespective of affiliation.
He said, “Great initiative from the Navy. Please ensure that you prosecute vandals, illegal “bunkerers”, dealers in stolen oil as well as military and government personnel that are engaged in economic and environmental sabotage. Also, try not to burn the canoes and barges/vessels that transport and bunker stolen oil so that the creeks and rivers will not suffer from environmental degradation and  pollution.”
Lauding the NN for deploying the ICT for its “No crude Oil Theft” campaign, a visitor to the forum, with the name Yeboyes, said he was pleased with the design of the website.
“I am a major critic of Nigerian web designs, but I am very impressed with this one. The design is great and the domain is prefect. Finally Nigerian web design companies are starting to build website the right way,” he explains.

Questions circulated on Facebook are fraudulent –WAEC

WAEC logo
The West African Examination Council has described as false claims by some Internet fraudsters that questions posted on its website are those meant for the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination.
Some scammers had posted supposedly live questions of the May/June 2013 WASSCE on the examination body’s website and urged interested candidates to buy recharge cards to access the questions.
But in a statement signed by its Deputy Director, Public Affairs, Mr. Yusuf Ari, the examination body stated that the claim was false.
It warned candidates against depending on fraudsters to pass examination.
“The attention of WAEC has been drawn to the current scam on Facebook and on some rogue websites whereby gullible persons, particularly candidates sitting for the on going May/June 2013 WASSCE, are lured into believing that they could obtain authentic question papers or answers for the examination in advance.
“Such scams are not new to the council as, over the years, old or fake examination question papers are usually circulated and sold by fraudsters, as authentic current ones, at ridiculous or give away prices,” he noted.
He stated that since WAEC first got wind of the current “digital” or Internet form of scam in 2011, the body had informed security agencies about the “rogue websites.”
“Since then, the Council has endeavoured to routinely carry out investigations into these claims and wishes to state categorically that the claims that authentic question papers or answers for its examinations can be procured in advance are completely false.
“All efforts to procure question papers or answers online, as promised in the current postings on Facebook failed. All efforts to purchase Government question paper scheduled to be written on Monday, April 22, a day to the examination, using GSM scratch cards as demanded, failed.
WAEC, therefore, advised the general public, particularly candidates in the on going examination, their parents and guardians, to be wary of these scams whether via the Internet or elsewhere.

Dearth of English, Maths teachers hits Kwara schools

Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed
Dearth of English Language teachers has hit public schools in Kwara State as only one teacher is available for 122 pupils, while only one Mathematics teacher handles 158 pupils.
This was contained in the Kwara State Annual Education Sector Performance Report of 2012, carried out by the State Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development.
Apart from these two most important subjects, the report also added that teacher-pupil ratio for Civic Education is one to 178; one to 130 in Geography; while a Computer Studies teacher handles 158 pupils.
A copy of the report obtained by our correspondent on Thursday also revealed a ratio of one Biology teacher to 105 pupils and one Literature teacher to 117 pupils. This is a far cry from an average of one teacher to 25 pupils recommended by UNESCO.
However, the state Education Commissioner, Alhaji Saka Onimago, said there was no scarcity of teachers in the state.
He, however, admitted that it needed more teachers in sciences and science-related subjects.
“I will not take it that the state is lacking teachers.   It is not peculiar to Kwara State. Kwara is a model particularly with our education reform agenda. Some states are coming to Kwara to see our reform agenda.  We have quality assurance which other states do not have,” he said.
But a further breakdown of the report revealed that 48,352 Agricultural Science pupils were being taught by 554 teachers; 68,440 Biology Science pupils are being handled by 654 teachers; 341 teachers teach 22,798 Chemistry pupils, while 94 Civic Education teachers handle 16,748.
Also, 773 pupils of Clothing and Textile are being taught by 17 teacher;  963 pupils of French are being handled by 21 teachers, 45,764 Geography pupils have 353 teachers; while 10 History teachers teach 575 pupils.
According to the report, 17, 101 pupils of English Literature are being taught by146 teachers;  23,255 Physics pupils by 250 teachers and 32, 369 pupils of Yoruba Language have 291 teachers.
The Sector Performance Report also stated that  30,578 pupils of other subjects not listed above were being taught by 1,759 teachers.
Onimago, however, said increased enrolment brought about by the state government’s free education policy was responsible for the trend. The commissioner revealed that the state governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, had approved the recruitment of about 200 teachers for the basic education cadre.
He added that the governor was also considering recruitment of more teachers for senior secondary schools across the state.
Onimago also claimed that the teacher-student ratio in the state tallied with that at the federal level.
“The position of the state government in terms of the teachers we have both at the basic education as well as those who are in senior secondary is that if you look at the  ratio on ground, you will see that it tallies with the requirements even at the federal level.
“But with the free tuition policy of the state government, you will notice that the number of enrolment this year has increased very highly. For instance, I was at Lade some time ago, I discovered that the enrolment in JSS 1 was as high as 135. That is a class that was not up to 35 pupils in a year in the past.  With this type of development, there is no doubt that we still need more teachers. The governor has approved that about 200 teachers should be recruited for the basic education,” he said.

Apostle Marries 9 Women, Plans To Marry 11 More So His Church Can Grow Quickly

Founder and leader of RMG End Time Message
Ministry is targeting 20 wives to increase church
membership as couples withdraw against his
polygamous doctrine. In a wide ranging interview, polygamous Apostle
Robert Martin Gumbura said he has decided to have
many wives and children who support his doctrine.
Apostle Gumbura said following his polygamy
doctrine, he faced a major exodus from his
congregation while he was based in Gweru. He was left with less than 50 people and he had five wives
at that time. Last week the controversial "man of God" paraded
NINE WIVES to news reporters saying he has no
reason to cheat with married women when he has
many wives to quench his sexual appetite. Gumbura
claims that he takes a lot of fruits and good meals
to GAIN POWER TO SEXUALLY satisfy his many wives in bed. He is now spreading the word of God
through his sexual power and is targeting 20 wives
and many children to achieve his goal. "These are my NINE WIVES and 28 children with
me today and I am targeting 20 wives who will bear
me many children. It is better to teach my children
and wives my doctrines rather than struggling with
couples who are against me. Men are not being
honest enough with their spouses. Many are not able to have one wife without cheating or having a
hidden small house. "As I read the Bible I discovered that Old Testament
leaders had many wives who became their followers
and that is the route I am taking. Many followers
deserted me after I preached about polygamy in
October 2000 and I was left with less than 50
people. As my wives bear many children, I will have many followers to my ministry since many are
leaving me because of that truth I am preaching. "I paraded my wives to all my church branches and
from there I am losing membership as women go
against it even though their husbands understood
the bible verses. I am not after married women. As
we speak I have six polygamous leaders under me
who are also following my doctrine," said Apostle Gumbura who was recently picked up by police for
questioning amid claims that he had sexually
abused several married women in his church. On HIV and AIDS, Apostle Gumbura said his wives
were faithful and the danger will only be brought by
him, if he was to cheat. "My wives are very faithful and protected that I trust
them. If AIDS is to be found among us, I will be the
one to blame and I am not a cheater. I eat fruits and
good meals to boost my immune system to have
power to make love to my wives. If there is anyone
of them who is not being satisfied I can go out so that she can be open to speak to you over that,"
said the husband of 9 and father of 28 (still

public especially those whose village is located
around rail line to be observant and give prompt

People Always Misunderstand Me – Jim Iyke

In a recent interview with Vanguard, Nollywood “bad boy” Jim Iyke had this to say about his “alleged” crisis with some of his colleagues in Nollywood and why he started his reality show.“I have always been misunderstood. Many times when things happen, I hardly come out to state my own side of the story. This is because I hate to join issues with anybody. Nobody likes to be intensively scrutinised. I think that’s what made me to rebel to some extent. I’ve seen people who do not live a normal life, yet they are first to point accusing fingers at others.
The press didn’t help matters in my case. Who is paying the price? They forget that I have a family which I’m answerable to. It’s my parents who get hurt whenever wrong things are written about me. People who are dear to me probably do not find what they are doing very funny.
Unscripted has given me an avenue to revisit every issue that has been an issue in my life.
In such little thing as business, people do business and end up in court because of disagreement. And while it’s easy to point accusing fingers at me and call me names because I’m in the limelight and of course, pointing accusing fingers at me will make news.
People forget that I’m a normal human being that is going through the normal issues in terms of business transactions. I can’t come out to claim that some people tried to defraud me because nobody knows them.
At the end of the day, it takes the strongest of character to survive all the ordeals. And while I’ve survived it, it has made me stronger and wiser. Yes, I don’t shy away from life experiences and I’m not ashamed of them. They don’t embarrass me because I’ve embraced them. They inform me, they order my steps, they strengthen my conviction and tell me the direction to follow. And that I think more than anything else re-enforces my philosophy.”
Aww, so he’s implying that the “unscripted” reality show would help us understand him better, oh well…

Jim Iyke and Nadia Buari Dating Secretly? (SEE PHOTOS)

Issues pertaining to the love lives of people are really not any of our business but when it has to do with our celebrities, then it becomes itchy to our ears. The rumour mill has been spinning for a while now leaving everyone confused about the recent hand-in-hand toddling between Nollywood’s bad boy-Jim Iyke and Ghanaian sexy screen goddess-Nadia Buari.
Whilst we are still basking in the revelation, let’s refresh our minds that Nadia and Jim have been gamboling together lately. Among the many places these two have been seen together, some significant ones may set the tone right; they were together in Uganda to receive respective awards. They were together in Dubai together as they attended 2Face’s wedding. They were together last Wednesday night to see the premier of Jim’s reality TV show titled ‘Jim Iyke Unscripted’. They have been together at couple of events in the UK, Dublin and South Africa.
According to a source close to the two, they have been seeing each other for over half a year. “Jim Iyke has invariably taken Ghana as his second home with his flying into Accra to see Nadia now becoming habitual”, the source confided.
Likewise, Nadia’s trips to Lagos have become uncountable. Our source hinted that when Nadia took a break and went to cool-off in the USA, Jim was always seen around trying to help her keep fit and reduce her weight.
Amidst their fun, they are stylishly denying what exists between them, but from our Entertainment Desk, we want to state that being in a relationship is no crime and therefore Nadia and Jim should be bold, come out and tell anybody heckling them over their ‘love life’ that they are not shying away but it isn’t a debate to be discussed either.

Omawumi Shares Embarrassing Moment When Her Boobs Popped Out On Stage

Omawumi Shares Embarrassing Moment When Her Boobs Popped Out On Stage
In a male dominated industry like the Nigerian music industry, first runner-up at the Idol West Africa, Omawumi Megbele, has proven to be a force to be reckoned with.
Some music critics in Nigeria have likened her to the legendary Onyeka Onwenu, who the singer did a duet with recently.
When it comes to dressing, Omawumi mostly rocks short gown which barely covers the whole of her thighs and at some instances, the shoulder region of her body is always exposed. This sometimes revealed her tìts. While some believe she does that intentional to stir controversies, others believe Omawumi is only proud being a woman, which she attests to in a recent interview.
Answering a question on why her tìts popped out at an event, the Delta State-born singer revealed that, “because I have small shoulders and my tìts are actually beautiful, I tend to wear revealing upper body dresses.”
She added that, “when you are looking at the mirror, you are not well as tall as to see how troublesome it could be. That dress has feathers in the front of it and before I left my hotel room, I asked someone if the dress was okay and she said yes.”
Continuing, Omawumi stressed that, “so, I wore the dress to the show and when I was performing at the show, of course, paparazzi took my pictures and released them. I realized that my tìts were practically pouring out of my dress, there was no way I could have put my tìts back.”

Remembering Dagrin, Olaitan Oladapo Olaonipekun 3 Years After

Remembering Dagrin, Olaitan Oladapo Olaonipekun 3 Years After
Today, April 22, 2013 marks three whole years since Olaitan Oladapo Olaonipekun better known as Dagrin passed away.
How he died: Dagrin died at 6:00PM on Thursday, April 22 – exactly eight days after he was involved in a ghastly accident in front of Alakara Police station, off Agege motor road, Mushin, Lagos.
The late rapper’s car, a Nissan Maxima 2008 model ran into a parked lorry in front of Alakara Police station, Mushin. He was initially admitted at Tai Solarin Hospital, Mushin before he was transferred to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) Idi Araba where Doctors made serious efforts to save his life.
Doctors at the Lagos State Teaching Hospital LUTH said he survived nine attacks before he finally gave up during the 10th attack. The nation was thrown into mourning; those who didn’t know the rapper Dagrin were forced to.
His early years: He started rapping about the age of 14. Dagrin would be at every Hip-Hop show in Lagos, trying to get a three-minute spot on stage’. Dagrin struggled for years, hopping from one studio to the other, in a quest to record a music album.
It took a few years for the struggling act that had been desperately looking for financial support to seal a record deal. In 2006, he released his debut ‘Still on the Matter’ under LEO Entertainment which was mildly received…
His relationship with his Parents: Dagrin allegedly had a strained relationship with his father, Comrade Olaniyi Abolaji Olanipekun but he was very close with his mother Mrs Olanipekun.
His love life: Before his death, Dagrin had also broken ties with his girlfriend Chichi. The couple had dated for seven years but Chichi kept pressuring for more than a mere commitment, friends of the couple say. ‘Dagrin at that time wasn’t ready for marriage so he let her go’, online reports disclosed.
3years after his death: Three years after, things seem to have changed, Dagrin’s death suddenly inspired a whole lot of rappers to hit the studio spitting in Yoruba language. Now we have the likes of Olamide, BaseOne, Tipsy, Jyhbo, Seriki obviously inspired by the general himself Barack O’grin.
The late Dagrin is being remembered on the various social media platforms today especially on twitter and Instagram.
MI and Iceprince tweeted this photo of them below with the caption “you will forever be in our heart” While Tonto Dikeh went to his grave to pay her respect pictures are below

Chidike Oyeka, unemployed graduate stabs self to death in Lagos

Chidike Oyeka, unemployed graduate stabs self to death in Lagos
Residents of Wole Madariola Street, Aguda, Surulere, Lagos have been asking questions about what pushed Chidike Oyeka, a graduate of Madonna University, Anambra, to stab himself repeatedly thereby taking his own life.
NE learnt that the Chidike on April 19, 2013, took a kitchen knife and stabbed himself repeatedly until his intestines were disembowelled.
Our correspondent, who visited his parents’ home where the incident occurred, learnt that the victim recently concluded his National Youth Service Corps programme.
A relative, who wished to remain anonymous, said the 25-year-old had been depressed for some time.
She said, “He did his NYSC in Delta State and only returned in February. Upon returning, he started to act strangely and we noticed that he was no longer sociable. Most times he would sit at a corner by himself and when we asked him what was wrong, he would say he was not happy.
“When the symptom became persistent, his parents took him to a hospital but nothing was discovered to be wrong with him, so we took him back home and continued to monitor him.”
Narrating what transpired on the day the victim died, the relative said it happened after everyone had gone to sleep.
She said he went into the kitchen, took a kitchen knife and stabbed himself three times.
She said, “I do not know the time it happened exactly but everyone had gone to bed while he stayed in the parlour. Around midnight, he was found lying in a pool of blood and the knife soaked in blood.
“His intestines were on the floor as well. From what we deduced, he stabbed himself three times without screaming because no one heard any noise. At daybreak, we went to Aguda Police Station to report the matter.”
A neighbour, who craved anonymity, said the deceased had once complained that one of the reasons why he was unhappy wasthat he was unemployed.
He said people advised him to be patient since he had only just completed his NYSC.
Our correspondent, who visited the parents’ home on Sunday, saw residents coming in droves to console the family particularly the victim’s mother.
Another resident, while consoling the deceased’s parents, said the family should have taken him to see a psychologist instead of a general medical practitioner when he complained of depression.
Mrs. Oyeka however said the circumstance surrounding her son’s death was metaphysical. She said she had left the matter to God but was pained that all her struggles to bring up her son were in vain.
“He was my first born and we did all to make him happy but sadly he took his own life. We counseled him on numerous occasions but this did not prevent him from committing suicide.
“I do not think someone can stab himself to death except he is under spell. I leave everything to God because He knows best.”
Meanwhile, it was learnt that the deceased would be buried on Thursday.
When contacted on the telephone, the acting spokesperson for the state police command, Damascus Ozoani, said the matter could not yet be classified as suicide until autopsy was concluded.
“Although the family claimed he killed himself, the police will have to do their own independent investigation to ascertain what really happened. We will wait for the outcome of the autopsy and this will determine our next line of action,” he said

Nigeria fighting 'kills scores' in Baga 22

Baga was destroyed in fires Intense fighting between the military and
Islamist militants in northern Nigeria is reported
to have killed at least 185 people, however the
army has disputed this figure. Rocket-propelled grenades and heavy gunfire
bombarded the remote town of Baga near the border
with Chad for hours on Friday evening, officials say. Some 40% of the town was destroyed by fire, one
rescue worker said. Nigeria faces a long-running insurgency in its
predominantly Muslim north. The Boko Haram insurgency has left thousands of
people dead since 2009. 'Markets burnt' Residents of Baga fled into the bush and only
returned on Sunday afternoon to find much of the
town destroyed and human and animal corpses
strewn through the streets. One local journalist said this marked a significant
escalation in the insurgency in the area, with the
militants using heavier weapons than in previous
attacks. BBC Nigeria correspondent Will Ross says this may
prove to be the most deadly incident involving Boko
Haram since a series of bombings in January last
year in Kano left at least 160 people dead. One resident, Bashir Isa, told Associated Press:
"Everyone has been in the bush since Friday night;
we started returning to town because the governor
came. "To get food to eat in the town now is a problem
because even the markets are burnt. We are still
picking corpses of women and children in the bush
and creeks.'' Residents said most of the bodies had been burned
beyond recognition in blazes that had destroyed
much of the town. "Forty percent of the town has been gutted by fire.
Many residents are still unaccounted for and for now
it is assumed that they fled into the bush," one
rescue official, who did not want to be named, told
the AFP news agency. Bodies are still being found and buried on Monday,
two of the town's inhabitants told BBC Hausa. One eyewitness told the BBC that the fighting
started when gunmen entered a video-viewing
centre, looking for a man, who then fled. The militants opened fire, attracting the attention of
nearby soldiers, who were initially overpowered,
before returning with reinforcements, leading to a
fierce gunbattle, he said. Local official Lawan Kole said that 185 people -
including civilians, members of the security forces
and attackers - had been buried. However, Borno state military spokesman Lt Col
Sagir Musa told AFP that such a high number of
deaths was "unthinkable". "On my honour as an officer, nothing like that
happened." Correspondents note that the Nigerian military often
plays down the number of people killed in clashes
with militants. An unnamed local official told AFP that dozens of
people had been killed in the fighting. Communications with parts of northern Nigeria are
difficult since mobile phone masts were destroyed
by militants. Isa Umar Gusau, an adviser to Borno state's
governor, told BBC Hausa: "It is very difficult to establish the number of
casualties exactly. "The figure of casualties given might not be correct,
but we value human life. We regret the loss of even
one live of any human being in Borno state." Boko Haram wants to carve out an Islamic state in
northern Nigeria. Its name in the local Hausa language means:
"Western education is forbidden". Share this story About sharing

156 Dead, 6,000 Injured As Earthquake Hits China (PHOTOS)

More than 150 people were killed and 5,700 injured when a strong earthquake hit a mountainous part of southwestern China on Saturday, destroying thousands of homes and triggering landslides.

The shallow earthquake struck Sichuan province on the edge of the Tibetan Plateau just after 8:00 am, prompting a major rescue operation in the same area where 87,000 people were reported dead or missing in a massive quake in 2008.

Nearly 13 hours after the quake hit Lushan county in the city of Ya’an, the death toll stood at 157, the official Xinhua news agency reported, citing the Ministry of Civil Affairs which said more than 5,700 had been injured.
At least 10,000 homes were destroyed, the Sichuan government said as rescue workers searched through the rubble for survivors.

Local seismologists registered the quake at magnitude 7.0 while the US Geological Survey gave it as 6.6. More than 260 aftershocks followed, the People’s Daily said on its website.
The shaking was felt in the provincial capital Chengdu, which lies to the east, and even in the megacity of Chongqing several hundred kilometres (miles) away.

Panicked residents fled into the streets, some of them still in their slippers and pyjamas.
“Members of my family were woken up. They were lying in bed when the strong shaking began and the wardrobes began shaking strongly,” said a 43-year-old Chongqing resident surnamed Wang. “We grabbed our clothes and ran outside.”

About 6,000 soldiers and police were heading to the area to help rescue work and five drones were sent to capture aerial images, Xinhua said.

Some teams had to contend with roads blocked by debris, state television CCTV reported, while one military vehicle carrying 17 troops plummeted over a cliff, killing one soldier and injuring seven others, Xinhua said.

“There are mountains on all sides, it is very easy to trigger mudslides and very dangerous,” one user wrote on Sina Weibo microblog site.

The disaster evoked comparisons to the 2008 Sichuan quake, the country’s worst in decades, and President Xi Jinping ordered all out efforts to minimise casualties, Xinhua said.

Premier Li Keqiang arrived in Sichuan in the afternoon and took a helicopter to the quake zone.
The first 24 hours was “the golden time for saving lives”, he was quoted as saying.

“Life is the most important thing and the top priority is saving lives,” he said.

Amid the rescue efforts, a 30-year-old pregnant woman surnamed Zhao was pulled out of the rubble along with a young child and sent to hospital for treatment, the People’s Daily said on its Weibo account.

“We have pulled 13 people out of the rubble, including 10 alive,” local official Luo Bin told Xinhua in the village of Gucheng.

“We are not sure whether more people are buried underneath but the search will go on,” he said.
CCTV showed one survivor receiving stitches for his head on the street, and another elderly man being pushed in a wheelbarrow padded with blankets past a row of tents set up outside a Lushan hospital.

A local TV journalist due to get married on Saturday turned up instead for work and a photograph of her holding a microphone in her wedding dress with bright makeup and a corsage was widely circulated online.
Meanwhile Ya’an residents were offering to donate badly needed blood, the People’s Daily said.

7 Possible Reasons Why Women Are More Tired Than Men

It probably doesn’t come as a shock, but women are more likely than men to be super tired.

A Centers for Disease Control and Prevention survey released on April 12th indicated that 15 percent of women compared to 10 percent men reported feeling “very tired or exhausted.” And that gap widens when you look at men and women between the ages of 18 and 44 (only 9 percent of men vs. 16 percent of women).

Here are seven (not totally scientific) reasons we think this may be the case:

1. You might be doubling up on the work you do. Although we’ve made strides toward a more equitable division of labor, women still tend to do more hours of housework and child-rearing than men do. So women who work outside of the house as well essentially have two jobs.

2. You have too many weeknight plans. Women are overwhelmingly guilty of trying to be everything to everyone. We often expend all of our energy trying to meet every social obligation. It’s probably time to stop doing that.

3. You’re probably chronically stressed out. There’s nothing like a stress-filled week to seriously deplete all of your energy.

4. Babies! According to NPR, 25 is still the average age of first birth. This might contribute to the larger exhaustion gap we see between men and women in the 18-44 range. Raising small children is pretty damn exhausting.

5. You can’t shut off your thoughts. Women may have a harder time letting go of things that happened during that day when it’s time to go to sleep.

6. You might be dealing with greater financial burdens than the dudes around you. Seeing as almost all women in the U.S. are working in jobs which typically pay men more, it wouldn’t be surprising if some women feel dead on their feet from trying to make ends meet.

7. If you’re depressed, that can impact your sleep. Women are more likely than men to suffer from depression and depressed people are four times as likely to be tired.

We are now ready for dialogue - B/Haram leader tells FG

THERE appears a ray of hope for the Federal Government’s planned amnesty programme for Boko Haram sect members as a leader of the sect, Mohammed Marwan, has hinted that the sect is now ready for dialogue with the Federal Government.

According to the sect leader, the reason the sect ordered the release of the French nationals its members took hostage was to demonstrate its readiness for dialogue with the Federal Government on the way forward in the offer of amnesty.

Marwan, who was speaking in an interview with the Hausa Service of the Voice of America (VOA) monitored in Kaduna on Saturday, explained that he ordered the release of the French nationals who had been in the sect’s custody for about two months after a meeting with 11 other top members during which the decision was taken.

He, however, warned that the agreement would be breached should the government continue its offensive against the sect members or attack any member of the Muslim community unjustly.

According to him, ”those that were in our custody for some time, I gave the directive that they be released yesterday around 2.00 p.m. I gave the directive for their release as a result of some discussions we had amongst us. The discussions revolved around what the government came up with after their meeting with the Northern elders.

“That is why I ordered that they should be released and allowed to go without being handed over to anybody. I said a vehicle should be brought so that they go back to where they came from inbetween Cameroon and Adamawa. It was as result of the many calls and the preparations ahead. That was why I gave that order after our joint meeting; 12 of us had met.”

Commenting on the amnesty committee set up by the government, Marwan said it was high time the government stopped what it was doing to the sect members and the sect too ceased fire.

“We thank Allah; we should all sit. They should stop what they are doing and we too should stop what we are doing. I also directed that no security official will be touched unless he touches us or the Muslim community; those who committed no crime, as we will revenge if they do that. But I have given that directive so that we would see how they will go about it. (So will it be) unless another confusion comes up again,” he said

Liverpool striker, Luis Suarez bites Chelsea defender during match

Liverpool striker Luis Suarez today Sunday April
21st bit Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic during
their Premier League match at Anfield. The
Uruguayan striker sank his teeth into the Serbian
defender's upper arm after a penalty-area tussle
mid-way through the second half. Suarez didn't get penalised for the bite because the referee didn't see
it. He went on score the equalizing goal for
Liverpool. He has since apologized for his
actions...but I'm sure FIFA will still penalize him.
