Nigerian Student Olaolu Femi Facing Life Imprisonment In Ukraine Released

 

A Nigerian student who has been in a Ukraine Prison since he was arrested in November 2011 has finally been released. Olaolu Femi was arrested after allegedly defending himself against six teenagers who attacked him at the entrance to his apartment block.
He was facing life imprisonment but thankfully, he has been released.
According to African Outlook, one of his friends was physically attacked in front of his apartment by four Ukrainian young men and two women pulled them to the ground while hurling racist slurs on them. Sunkanmi was said to have managed to get up and defended himself against the assailants with a glass from a broken bottle. It was while he was defending himself that police arrived at the scene and the Nigerian was subsequently arrested and charged with attempted murder of five people.
His arrest and conviction stared up mass protests among Nigerians and members of the international community in Ukraine, with many people seeking for his release.
