A Lebanese body who was kidnapped by
hoodlums three weeks ago in Rivers State, was found dead in a bush near
Shell Road in Omuawa community of Ikwerre Local Government Area.
Security agents had been searching for the whereabouts of the Lebanese in the past three weeks.
we gathered that the decomposing body of the foreigner was found by women in the the community.
The women had perceived an offensive
odour while in the bush and later found the corpse of the expatriate,
who was an official of JMS Construction Company in the state.
It was learnt that the women abandoned
their mission in the bush and reported the matter to members of their
community in Omuawa.
An eyewitness, who spoke with our
correspondent on Tuesday, explained that the expatriate, whose name
could not be ascertained as of the time of filing this report, was
abducted while on duty on Azuaha Road in Ikwerre LGA.
The eyewitness said, “One of the women, who usually go to the bush to get Okazi leaves,
told us that they were uncomfortable about the odour around the bush.
They (the women) said they thought it was a dead animal.
“When they moved further, they noticed that what they thought was an animal was a human being.
“Some of us could not believe their
story until we got to the scene and discovered that it was the white man
who was kidnapped a few weeks ago.”
It was, however, learnt that those who
abducted the expatriate might have killed him when the ransom they were
expecting was not forthcoming.
Confirming the incident, the state
Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ben Ugwuegbulam, explained that
investigation into the matter was ongoing.
Ugwuegbulam said the police would fish out those involved in the kidnap and killing of the expatriate.
